Hi, I’m Maz

I’m a Queer Trans Nonbinary adviser, activator, facilitator, and visual artist. My work is focused on embodied liberation for all by way of creativity, eroticism, and spirituality.

I support folks who want to experience more joy, connection, and ease in their everyday lives, even amidst the systems of oppression we are currently navigating.

A Bit More About Me

I am an alchemist, a connector, a cosmic experimenter, and a sacred galvanizer. A vocal advocate who loves to reimagine, invigorate, and revitalize! I love teaching, coaching, and creating because it’s a generative space to do just that.

My practice is founded in uplifting, accepting, and affirming because I truly believe everyone is already capable, complete, and magnificent! In my work, I invite folks to unravel the stress, fear, and expectations that can cloud our knowing. We then dig to the root, inviting the magic of our essence to freely flow and guide us forward.

Some Things I’m Proud Of

Some Things I’m Proud Of ⋆

Trans People Are Sacred Billboard

In 2020, my artwork was featured on a billboard in my hometown of St. Louis, MO as part of a project by Jonah Welch and Save Art Space. This piece is a triptych collage featuring three different images of me and proudly states “Trans People Are Sacred ~ Trans Magick is Real.”

Being a part of this project was an absolute honor. Trans and Nonbinary magic and divinity is something I believe in so deeply, as is representation. Growing up I had so few positive images of Gender Blessed folks, so it feels important to make them now.

My gender identity is an integral part of me. It touches everything I am and everything I do. It resides in my divine, eternal spirit. Swirled together, inseparable. It was exhilarating to celebrate that in a big, public way. Limited edition prints are available here.

Being an Engaged Family Member

My family was my first community. The place where I began learning about right relationship, connection, uplifting, and caregiving. I have five siblings, each one of them very unique, and a large extended family. My mom has 16 siblings, my dad has eight, and then there are so many cousins and other relatives.

One of the biggest challenges of my life has been living my truth and exploring my identity while respecting my family. I strive to be a present sibling, child, aunt/uncle (still haven’t found the right gender-open language for this role), cousin, and grandchild in ways that honor my self, my boundaries, my beliefs, and my family. Celebrating my ancestors, both living and passed, is an integral part of this practice and an endless source of love and support.

My Adventures in Iceland

When I was 19, I went to Iceland on a whim. After exploring and hitchhiking around the island, I ended up working on a farm near Selfoss. There I milked cows, built fences, and assisted with lambing season. The language, the culture, and the landscape captured my heart.

When I returned to the United States, I went to UW Madison to study Icelandic. At the time, it was the only college in the US that offered it. Soon after I moved to Reykjavik to attend the University of Iceland and continue studying the Icelandic language. While I no longer live in Iceland, I treasure the years I spent there and still feel a strong connection to the island. Studying and speaking Icelandic is a true joy for me.

  • My formal education is in fine arts and communication design. I attended the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and Parsons School of Design. I studied printmaking, bookmaking, embroidery, typography, illustration, photography, paper-making, performance art, and all types of design including publication, UX, and UI.

The practices I learned from artmaking and design often come into play in my work as a facilitator and coach. This is where my love of experimentation and vivid visuals comes from. My excitement about symbols, poetry, new concepts, my ability to see future outcomes and my dedication to flow and process. These are all things I developed and practiced in the studio.

Creativity is a way of life. I deeply believe we are all creative. It can be seen in how we put words together, create an image, set a table, or move through a meditation. It’s so present and I love celebrating this in my work!

  • While formal training is valuable, it is by no means a full education. What influences me most is my lived experience as well as following my natural curiosity. Things like learning Icelandic, practicing breathwork, working on a farm, and doing UX design have all shaped what I value and how I show up as much if not more than my formal education.

Every experience I’ve had has been full of applicable lessons, including working as a server in New York. Interacting with hundreds of guests every night at busy cocktail bars and farm to table restaurants taught me so much. It gave me invaluable practice in reading a room, anticipating needs, setting boundaries, and learning when to lead and when to step back.

It also feels important to say that while I have had formal training, it was harmful at times. Like most formal education, it was founded in white supremacy with transphobia and homophobia very present. Those experiences really invited me to trust my own rooted knowing, the value of my lived experience, and the wisdom of my communities.

  • As a student of the divine, I have been fascinated by ceremony and magic since I can remember. While I am no longer religious, my Catholic upbringing introduced me to sacrament, sacred symbolism, and parables. It instilled in me a real awe at the mystery of the Spirit realm and the power of the Divine.

I have a rich spiritual practice that involves meditation, breathwork, embroidery, art making, and sound making. It is through these channels that I have come to know and value my shapeshifting ability. They have also brought me into deeper connection with my well, bright Ancestors, beloved Transcestors, blessed Transcendants, and guiding Spirits. Their guidance and support is integral to my work.

  • My experience as a Pro Domme, or Dominatrix, was a masterclass in how to meet folks where they are. The art of domination is about conscious power dynamics, embodied play, focused energy, and understanding motivation. It is also about creating consent, clear communication, and creative pathways through unknown, sometimes scary space.

Dominating requires a lot of focused attention as well as adept flexibility. The key for me is to be connected and attuned to my submissive/playmate. To create an energetic connection between us so that the exchange flows with ease and understanding. Syncing up with each other so we could move and play together, improvising as we go. Holding space is quite similar.

My time as a Pro Domme informs my work on so many levels. It’s where I mastered creating spaciousness, mono-tasking, practicing non-judgement, reading body language, and tuning into desires, especially when those desires are uncomfortable or feel alarming to the nervous system.

As someone who deviates from many “norms” myself, I know how hard it can be to find folks who are open-minded and informed. I am proud to say that I am a kink aware, BDSM friendly, pro-SWer practitioner.
